Why did I choose to work in the Early Childhood field?

My journey in this evolving field started 23 years ago. Working with young children has always been my passion since I was a kid. As my mother was a leader in this field, watching her, learning from her, and becoming inspiring to others in this field has had a positive impact on me. It has been a humbling and rewarding career and I feel honored to have had a positive impact and touch the lives of numerous children, teachers, families, and communities across the SLV.

of Infants & Children. Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Can Help
Caregivers Support Social-Emotional
Development & Address Challenging Behaviors.

Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH) Consultants work with caregivers (early childhood staff, parents, teachers, etc.) to build knowledge, skills, confidence and reflective capacity with a focus on social emotional wellness for caregivers and children. What is offered?

  • Supports well-being for caregivers. All young children benefit when their caregivers are healthy and not too stressed. Consultants support the growth and well-being of caregivers, helping to:
    o Reduce teacher, director and caregiver stress
    o Increase staff retention
  • Supports well-being for all children. Consultation increases the confidence and ability of early childhood professionals and caregivers to support healthy social-emotional development for all of the children
    they care for. With practice, the skills caregivers learn become more
    automatic, helping them to:
    o Promote a warm and responsive care environment
    o Find and address mental health and developmental issues early
  • Addresses challenging behaviors. Consultants can also work with caregivers to support children who may be struggling. This helps to:
    o Decrease behaviors adults find challenging
    o Reduce suspensions and expulsions
  • Challenging Behaviors, Trauma Informed Care, and Communications Trainings for Early Childhood Educators

My child has special needs which propelled me to learn about all the resources available for children and families will disabilities. I became an advocate, and strived to learn as much as I could, which turned into a passion for Early Childhood. I value relationships and understand the important role they play in our lives. I also understand the importance of mental health and how it impacts the way we show up each day. I consider myself a lifelong learner who hopes to make a positive impact on my community through early intervention.
